  First of all my review is not based on the management or staff at this club.I have enjoyed this club for 14 years. The staff and current manager are lovely and do their best. My review is based on VirginActives HEAD OFFICE and what they have imposed on this club. There are no other platforms to post reviews on the head office performance. Clearly, HEAD OFFICE have instructed management to cut classes under the guise of them having less than 50% occupancy. Fair enough but this has proved to be partly untrue as some classes that were usually full have been deleted from the timetable. The main problem here is that Virgin are terrible communicators so you hear everything via the rumour mill. If they were straight and honest it wouldn’t cause so much distress to members. The classes that have been severely affected are holistic classes , Yoga and Pilates mat classes of various forms. During mid morning these classes were always full. There was a mix of people but mainly people aged 50+ with conditions like arthritis , and those that want to undertake their practice in the morning. They want traditional holistic exercise like hot yoga and Pilates align. These classes don’t just help people physically, but are essential for the mental health of attendees. Many of these classes have disappeared. There are 77 Reformer classes a week however many members don’t want to or cannot use machines due to health conditions. Speaking to younger people today at Pilates mat they can’t even get onto the reformer classes because they are so hard to book. In addition the reformer beds are looking really tatty due to so many classes , 4 beds were out of action for months. Let’s be honest, Virgin have done this to save money at the expense of members , particularly older members, but increase membership fees every year. The leaky bucket the CEO talks about is truly in action at Virgin. I know of at least 6 long term members who are throwing in the towel and going elsewhere.

  The gym is okay. It’s usually not too full which is great. I wish there were more beginner classes, like for boxing a foundational class and more Pilates foundational classes at times that full time working people can access. The cleanliness needs to be improved. The (women’s) showers and changing room are not clean enough. Compared to another virgin active i used to go to, it’s too dirty. Please keep your standard as virgin active and work on this, as so many reviews have mentioned. More cleaners could be a solution. The cleaner has now sprayed freezing water on my feet while I was in the shower, and also yanked my towel away, as it was laying next to me in the changing room without asking. Unfortunately the men in the sauna are always talking loudly, and you don’t get peace. Comparing to another Virgin Active I used to go to it was calm there and it was a good mix of men and women. Here the men take over and are too loud. I wish I was closer to another Virgin active. I really hope they work on these things. Also, please open later on the weekend! 8pm is extremely early.

  Admittedly, I’ve only just joined this place but so far my impressions are very favorable. I dropped by just to give the place the once over and one of the staff there David took me around to show me the facility. I have to commend him for his exceptional interpersonal skills. He was both professional, but more important to me personable. Although it’s a bit more expensive than my last gym, the difference in terms of the facilities and the sheer space is like night and day.

  Came in for a day trial with my two kids and husband and will definitely be joining as a family of 4 when my David Lloyd contract comes to an end in March. I especially want to mention the General Manager, Mo, who was incredibly helpful when I needed some assistance.

  Virgin Active Wandsworth isn’t my home gym, but visiting there this week, I was blown away by the customer service of the whole team. I was greeted when I came through the car park immediately with the biggest smile and warm welcome from the General Manager Mo. The team were all so friendly throughout my visit and Nadene on reception was great. When I went for a swim after my workout, I saw Mo on poolside, interacting with all the members and it gave such a brilliant community atmosphere.
